I'm not going to lie folks, I thought I'd gone to bass player heaven...until I realised I was going to be DI'd.
 
LOL I once showed up with my upright for a quiet little jazz rehearsal, where they said that an amp would be provided for me. It turned out to be a giant Ampeg fridge rig. It worked just fine.

Heard James Singleton play with John Cleary in New Orleans last year - amazing upright player. His rig was a Walter Woods on top of a fridge, I thought that was kind of silly and slightly overkill until he started playing. One of the best upright sounds I've ever heard.

Ha ha. Now that I have the Peavey 810 I am hoping I don't always have to be DI'ed, however in doing so I also can just leave that heavy cab at home and just take my bass and amp.
