Hey, Hal Leonard!

Bruce Foxton of The Jam inspired so many 40 and 50 somethings like myself to play bass. His bass lines are so innovative and there has never been a bass book all these years. I could say exactly the same thing about Stranglers bass legend JJ Burnell. (hint for book publishers)

There is a cool upcoming books with the cool title of "Ultimate Bass Bonanza" +++ TO HL for that.

Wish it had a few more obscure bands like DD, but it does have a nice range of 50 tunes. Not sure if the "SO Far Away" is the Dire Straits song in it, hope it is.

Great topic. No question there are holes in the bass transcription library. Some of this is due to sales, some rights, but all of your suggestions will be considered. I can say that we currently have bass publications in production for Dream Theatre, Steely Dan, Queen, Cream, Paul McCartney, Slipknot, Megadeth, Sly & the Family Stone (long overdue, for sure!), and Yes, as well as a couple mixed collections such as Metal Bass Tabs and--don't cringe: Best Bass Lines Ever. Someone earlier mentioned Muse, which could be possible, and the Jeff Beck idea is also interesting!

wow, thanks for the reply! i do appreciate what you and your competitors have put out.

someone mentioned George Porter earlier - a friend gave me a copy of warren haynes "man in motion", with porter on bass. that cd is an education on funky cool non-slap style bass playing.

also, somebody somewhere needs to do a Gary Thain/ Uriah Heep compilation.

well, hey, as long as i've got hal leonard's attention, on the guitar side of things, i would realy like to see a "best of badfinger" tab book - and i'd like to see a "best of the raspberrys" tab book. (and bass tab for it would be just divine, also) but maybe there isn't enough interest, so why not a book that combines the best of both bands? they both sort of occupy the same sort of continum, early '70's power pop, anybody who loves one probably likes the other, too.

why stop there? how about savoy brown/humble pie? Spirit and rare earth? procul harem and uriah heep or somebody.

also, in general, it seems to me there ought to be a best of 3 dog night book and also a best of elton john book. alot of bar musician's still play 3 dog night, even tho the rest of the world seems to have forgotten them.

and is there any reason why there can't be books with bass and guitar tabs, together? the presnt format that Guitar World magazine uses, bass and guitar parts synched together is very useful to me and i'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks so. charge just alittle more, i guess. there's alot of us who play both instruments.

Foghat!!!!
Grand Funk!!!!
Montrose!!!!

Amen to that! Great way to revamp sales of older titles too, by adding bass.

Lots of good ideas for sure. Need to read these forums more often! Not sure how many we can publish, but we'll try.

Meters, Stevie Wonder, Montrose, Styx, etc.

We have a Foghat guitar folio but nothing for bass.

We've published a few folios with guitar/bass together--I agree it's convenient--but have found that it can hurt sales because some consumers don't want to pay a higher price for only half a book (if they only need the guitar tab).

By the way, the Sly and Yes folios are still a few months away so that's why they are not showing yet on our website.

If you haven't tried our Bass Play-Along series yet, I'd recommend it. Someone also mentioned the new Bass Bonanaza, which will be in-stock this week. By the way, we released a ZZ Top bass book in April.

Hope this helps. Thanks for your interest.

Sly &TFS?!

Link?
...a search @www.halleonard.com yielded nada.

Laugh if you will...I have always wanted a School's Out Transcribed Scores/Bass book.

i was listening to "schools out" yesterday on my truck's stereo. this is the one stereo i've ever owned where i can really hear the bass on most recordings. and that bassline on "school's out" is killer! lots of 70's rock has great great bass playing, but they didn't often mix it so that it can be heard.

That whole album has some nice bass work ("Gutter Cat", "Blue Turk", "Luney Tune", "Public Animal", etc)...& the recording/mix is very, very good. Each instrument sits well in the mix. Dunaway's bass is nice & clear; if I ever had the chance, I would ask how come the AC group sounded so "polished" on recoird...but almost "garage-like" in concert.

Anyway, definitely one of my favourite albums from 1972.
