Mine cost $50. It's good enough for this kind of work, but it's not hard to DIY with the stuff you have if you haven't got one to hand.

Monster would certainly like for you to think so.IF (and I'm not saying they do or they don't), better quality guitar cables result in "better" sound, wouldn't that also apply to head to cab speaker cables and to patch cables for effects pedals and DIs?

Rolling your own is more fun.
Here's an idea. You can get R out of the way by measuring the series resistance with a DMM, or just computing it from the wire gage. Measuring such low resistances is actually a bit tricky, and you might just be able to assume it is zero for the sake of this study.
Now build a voltage divider using a resistor and the "unknown" cable. Feed with the function generator, and measure the output at different frequencies. Do this with the cable open, then shorted at the opposite end. From the graphs of gain versus frequency, and the known resistance, you should be able to compute C and L.
Since I don't have a function generator, I would do all of this with my PC as both the generator and analyzer.
Bongomania, have you gotten any closer to testing? I'm curious about what you'll find.
I got all the pieces together a couple of weeks ago, but I have not yet gotten it all to work properly. For example, there is an annoying snafu with the recording software, where no matter what level it shows at the input, it records at about half that level. And Presonus has not responded to my tech support requests.
Also, I have not quite gotten the output of pink noise and the input from the cable's other end to work simultaneously.
Grrr. Anyway, I am still working on it!
Wireless cable?I chose the wireless cable with and oxygen free connector from the receiving unit to the compressor and the compressor to the amp. but ... I like the hi-fi sound and have the amp set on flat...
I love EHX just as much as the next guy, but I'm highly sceptical of the abilities of a Deluxe Memory Man to determine R... Unless R stands for "Really-Awesomeness," which I also doubt.![]()
