Hi all... new member.

Been playing 'normal' guitar for..... um, 35 years now on and off, but never owned a bass. A good friend of mine has several really nice ones and after playing some of his I started hankering after one myself, so I just picked up a cheap Squier to see how I get on. It's in the mail and should be here later in the week.

... already got the Ramones albums out in anticipation.

Coming from guitar I expect pick playing will come most natural to me, but who knows.... maybe some other guitar players that have switched or also play bass might have some tips to stop me just strumming it like Lemmy!

I'll be looking for an amp next probably anyway... I had a good idea of what I wanted for a bass, no idea on amps because I'm not in the position to have a full Orange stack in the lounge.

If you're only planning on jamming at home at least at first, maybe invest in a small audio interface (I use an Presonus Audiobox USB96) and a decent set of headphones.

welcome! i switched from guitar to bass, and i thought playing with fingers sounded intimidating, but ive found that i have an easier time playing bass with fingers than with a pick

I tried to play guitar. Frustrated by my fingers. Found bass, then fretless then cello. Guitar has improved but bass is where I live.

Play with both fingers and pick and dig the rhythm and the oomph!
