Hi Beam feel with warmer tone

I like the feel of Hi Beams on my 33" six but they're a little bright and upper mid shy for my tastes. What is out there in a six string set that has that nice taut feel but is a little warmer sounding?

They will have a slicker feel, like a NPS string.

Fat Beams and Hi-Beams are both Stainless Steel but the Fat-beams are warmer.

I tried a set of pure blues and they were way too loose and "splank-y" (super descriptive I know). the pure blues I tried may have been a really light gauge set. They were gently used so I didnt see the packaging

Do the Fatbeams have a similar feel with more mids and less highs? I wasnt under that impression

I thought fat beams were scooped with a more pronounced bass and treble response. Perhaps I am mistaken

Hmm, I didn't find the Pure Blues noticeably more "loose" feeling than the Hi-Beams in the same gauge. Very different sounding string though.

I found Pure Blues to feel "softer" on the fingers than hi beams, but no looser or floppier for the same gauge. But if you want stiffer too, maybe hex core Lo Riders?

I think gauge notwithstanding, I preferred the Hi Beam tone on this particular bass. Although gauge has a pretty strong effect on the tone. I think it was a custom 30,40,60,80,100,125 set.

Fodera Stainless Steel could work well for you. They're round core like the Hi-Beams but I found them too warm for my tastes.

might have to try those Fodera SS's. Too bad they dont have anything between a 28 and a 34 for the C string

I was a long time Hi-Beams user and switched over to Fat Beams a while back ago. In my experience, They have the same feel, but the Fat Beams don't have quite as bright of highs and are a bit warmer overall, especially once they're broken in.

Fodera stainless steel are also excellent and one of the warmest sounding SS stings I've tried. They cost a bit more, but are very high quality and long lasting.

I like the Lo Riders. Similar to the high beams without being stupid bright. They last me pretty long, too.

Hi-Beams are stainless steel wrapped and round core. If you stick to the round core and move to nickle it will warm your tone up. Sunbeams are the nickle versions of Hi-Beams. Another choice are Dunlop Super Brites, but you might find them too...well...bright. They cost a lot more, but Fodera nickles are pretty nice too.

Problem is R Cocco lost their US distributor, so only available in EU right now.

Yeah On a 50’s p bass. About us polar opposite of a high fidelity six string as possible

I loved R Cocco strings back in the late 90's/early 2000's when they came standard on Pedulla basses. I should have bought cases of their strings, my favourite after Rotosound.
