Hello all. I've been a member on this board since 2018 but never introduced myself back then, also I didn't really come here that often as there was a lot of things going on in my life - same as all you I'm sure.
So, I'm aged around mmmmmty, erm thi... Ok I'm 60. Time bloody flies. I'm a complete newb to everything bass as it stands now.
I'm left handed but could not afford a LH bass as a kid as they were rare and not many available in the 70's, so I learned to play right handed which was a nightmare so I never was able to use a pick and instead played with my fingers. Give me a LH bass today and I'd really not know what to do with it.
Back in my teens and into my 20's I played with a few bands around the UK Midlands, pubs, clubs, parks and even the Natural History Museum in London at Viscount Lindley's graduation do (to this day, I don't know how our manager got that gig, but the night ended up with us getting a bit lairy as we had to stick to our own area and not bother the guests, just us and Darwin's statue who ended up being decorated with a can of red stripe in his hand and a spliff in his mouth, so our bored keyboard player decided to hit one of the guests and we all ended up being forcibly ejected by the museum security and our inebriated roadie/van driver crashing into the wrought iron gates at the museums entrance chased by a mob of angry toffs with the inebriated band in the back! To my knowledge I think we're the only band to have played there on those steps) :D.

I started at 13 with a Shaftsbury Telebass copy and a FAL 50 amp with a 'Sound Gig' 15" bass bin. I graduated to a Vox White Shadow and Laney 100 valve head with a Carlsbro 2x15 Bin and used the other bin on top. My final rig was a Japanese Westone Bass (can't remember the model but it was a gorgeous red) a HH Bass Machine Head and 2x15 Peavey Black Widow.

Sort of after that well, life, marriage, kids, work all got in the way. I always thought I should pick up the bass again but we always put off to tomorrow what we should have done today.
In the last few years I found myself yearning again to take up bass playing, and so in 2018 bought a MIJ Midnight Traditional P bass. I was shocked at how rusty I was after 30 years and over the last couple of years it just gathered dust, just picking it up now and then to play through a mixer with headphones to youtube. Last year I got in touch with one of the very first bands I played with and we went for drinks and had a great time, even though I walked out on them when I was 18 - I took some flack for that - we're thinking about just playing together (just for us) for old times sake. I've added another 2 basses to my collection since then, a Harley Benton RC-414 (rounds) and a Yammy BBN4F iii fretless (flats) Just changed the P bass to flats as well. I also snagged an Orange Crush Bass 50. Love reggae, dub, blues anything with a thikk bass line. and I really feel like playing again, incredibly my fingers still have the muscle memory after 30 years, sadly the dexterity and rhythm is lacking. Probs not get the dex back, but rhythm's getting better every day.
Anyway, that's me. Glad to meet you all.
PS sorry about the crap photo quality - iPhone 6, but promise to do better next time :)
