Hello everyone ! I have been playing guitar in small bands for the past 30 years (I'm 46). Never been the best player but it was a lot of fun. My last band fell apart about 3 years ago and the last thing I wanted was to find another band and play guitar. After a while without playing any music, I accidentally grabbed a cheap bass I had since 15 years and never really played. I liked the feeling and started to watch some cool videos on Youtube and the idea to become a bass player came to me. I play bass for 18 months now and it's the best thing ever. I'm like a kid everytime I play, I have so much to learn. My experience as a guitar player is a lot of help, but I don't want to sound like a guitarist playing bass so I focus on fingerstyle for now. My goal is to be the bass player the next time I'll be in a band.
Welcome to the deep end. It seems like you’re enjoying playing bass and that’s what it’s all about really.
What does a band want the bass to do? Normally it is to lock with the drummer's kick drum, play chord tones and not step on anyone's toes. Have fun.
