Hi all!

I started playing bass for the first time at the age of 67 back in October.

After a (brief) flirtation with a Gear4Music Electro-Acoustic (which, I have to say, was inspirational), I now have a Sterling Stingray SUB 4, of which I am inordinately fond. It's Mint Green and the most bling-y thing I own. I love it very much and I am having such a ball learning something new in my dotage

Big up to my teacher Chris Pidgeon - total confidence, much respect! And to Ed at Nottingham Drum and guitar Centre for his patience. And talking of patience, big love to my partner Donna for not telling me to shut up when I want to practise. Mind you,, she's learning the alto sax!

That's excellent. Having a partner that in no way complains about you playing/practicing is immeasurably valuable. I had it for over 20 years and haven't for about 6. Night and day in terms of quality of life.

Looks like we are going down the same path at the same age and started at the same time

I bought a 5 string OLP, which is the earlier licenced copy of the Stingray than your Sub, which I'm really enjoying. Managed to draw blood playing The Doors "Break on through (to the other side)", the other evening, which must be some sort of rite of passage for a bass player. Probably the first time I've used the G string at speed

I heard a Sub at a gig we played at a couple of months ago and it sounded awesome, good choice.

On to my question:

As we (my wife, who is a singer) like folky music as well as rock, I was thinking of getting an electro-acoustic bass as well. The Gear-4-music 4 or 5 string basses look to be good value. What's your experience with it ? It seems to be the most common second hand electro-acoustic bass on Ebay, which makes me a little suspicious.

Anybody else got any views on Gear-4-Music electro-acoustic basses or others budget ones available in the UK ?
