I've been reading posts on Talkbass for ages. I've finally decided to at least say hi.
I'm a middle aged dude who has just achieved a very stable job post for as long as I want to have it. I work hard and have very young kids so my time for hobbies is limited. Playing bass is my top hobby together with cooking.
I've been playing on an off since '98. I've been in punk, ska-punk, metal and country bands, very few gigs and just a demo actually (back in '04 I think). I went on a long hiatus from '06 to '17.
Right now I am aching to either reboot my last project (country/folk) with my wife and others (logistically complicated due to kids) or start something else, being open to anything but modern metal, ambient or jazz for different reasons (too intense, too mellow, too hard). I also hope to fill in the gaps in knowledge I have. I struggle with rhythm and remembering the changes in songs. I'd love to learn how to sing and play which I'm unable to do withouth losing the beat. No real aspirations to be a "proper" musician, but to have fun and play some of the music I love.
I'm mostly a finger picker, but I can play with a pick. Not much of a slapper or tapper as I've never had the time to put in said techniques, which I like, but don't really need..
My current line up is a Cort A6 (too heavy), a Schecter modded into a fretless (with seymour duncans), a harley benton jazz bass kit bass I put together (with nordtrands), an Ibanez acoustic bass made into fretless, a Donner ukebass and a custom made five string electric upright. I have a TC electronics amp and too many pedals that I might end up trading for a HX Stomp or something of the like.
I am interested in owning a shortscale (tried the JMJ last summer and loved it) and/or a semihollow bass for that thumpy vintage sound. But really a couple of five string basses one fretted and the other fretless are what I want most as in my mind they'll be workhorses that I'll be able to use for nearly everything that comes my way.
