I use a Rival hot pot from Target, about $15. It may be larger than the one shown in this thread. I have tried several smaller hot pots but like this one because it provides a source of hot water for the wiping rags for either assembly clean up or dis-assembly.
I had to modify the adjustable thermostat to lower the range. As I remember I just had to cut off a tab stop to allow the dial to go lower. The bottom comes off with a few screws. Be careful in there, unplug.
Even with a re-calibrated knob, the temperature still varies from 125 to 150 degrees. It is surprising how much difference this can make in open time. I always use a thermometer and if the temp is low, jog the knob to kick off a heat cycle.
I use a small 2-3 oz. Pyrex beaker for the glue which can go directly to the freezer. I put a wood block on it when it is not being used to reduce evaporation of the glue. Close the lid to likewise conserve hot water.
BTW the reason these pots overheat at first is because the thermostat is not in contact with the heating element (or water). It is measuring the temperature of the air in the bottom cavity which lags the water temp. So to get started quickly, plug it in with about 1/2 the water level you need and then when it overheats pour more cold water in to reduce the water temp.
