Hey everyone,

I love the look of basses like Ken Smith Design six-string and Status six'ers, so I was wondering what other companies make six strings like this for around the same price range, maybe slightly higher ($2,300). I don't want a production line Ibanez or Yamaha, because they just don't sound or feel right. I'm looking for something fairly unique but not crazy. It also doesn't have to be custom.

If you have any S/H that you're looking to sell, just drop me a PM.

Thanks,

Funk

Gotta ask, is that your bass in your avatar? That is, bar none, my unattainable dream bass. That body shape is the most lyrical and visually balanced looking composition in all of Luthiery IMHO. I've considered ransoming a kidney to get one, so far cooler heads prevail.

Unfortunately it's not my bass, no D:

It's an alembic Series II Omega, I believe. That'll set you back around $8,000-$11,000 if the owner wants to sell it S/H. If you ordered that from Alembic brand new, probably looking around $27,000...I'm not joking...

Funk,
On my mobile right now, can't hyperlink. Its Guitarplansunlimited .com
Click on Basses on the left hand menu. They have plans labeled Alembic 30" and Alembic 34". The thumbnails are dumbed down for obvious reasons, the actual plans are full size and with complete dimensions. They sell templates too, I think he can lasercut anything you want for $50.00. Carvin makes a really nice 24 fret neck through blank with a paddle headstock that would be perfect for the 34", but it could be bolt on just as well.

I have a laser cutter, so that should be easy!
