Highway One vs. American Standard

So I've been looking for a new J-Bass. I've been looking at a Highway One Jazz bass and was wondering if it was any better than the American Standard Jazz?

I can't say that I've done in-depth side-by-side comparisons, but my main bass for both live & recording is a Highway One. Bought it maybe six or seven years ago and haven't looked back. It's a beast and a workhorse and all of those crazy things we say about the instruments we love.

The thin finish on the hgwy one combined with the badass bridge gives the bass a lot of feel. I have both a j and a p and I highly recomend them. I also have a custom classic j that sits in the case because I prefer the hgwy one!!!!

Or should that be: The Highway One is more expensive than a MIM but not as expensive as a MIA Standard. From what I understand, quality is all over the show.

The Highway One is basically a downgraded American Standard. Is there a particular reason that you are wondering if it's better?

Seriously, if I was in the market for a new Jazz Bass, there's no way I would pay for an American Standard with the Hwy 1 available.

It's always been my understanding that the Highway One is the American Standard but with a lower cost finish that doesn't require the labor intensive high gloss polishing of the Standards. Spec-wise, I think they're the same.

Minus the string through of the American Standard that is what I have heard also.

The pickups are different (American vs Standard), as is the bridge (actually better on the Hwy 1). A wash, as far as I'm concerned.

i knew it had a "graphite reinforced neck" but don't know what that means.
