Hilarious eBay auction

Interesting this guy claims this bass was used to record Counterparts, but in this video

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

at about 3:45 Geddy states that he returned to using his Jazz bass through an old Ampeg amp for that album. You would think he'd mention if he tried anything else. :D

I don't know if I read it on here or if someone had told me this story, but I had heard that Geddy would not, or was not allowed to sign basses. For the exact reason as shown by this auction; someone trying to sell or pass it off as a "Rush" bass. Even if the signatures are legit, I do not know why the price would appreciate because of it save for it being an actual famous bass that Geddy used for a period of time which this is obviously not.

You just won Geddy Lees bass!!!!!!!!

Here it is!!!!!!!!!!!

I see a lot of these second-tier instruments signed by big names. I'm sure the sigs are authentic, but why the donor never comes up with a top instrument is beyond me. Frankly, I don't know why "name" bands sign these things.

Think about it logically. Your average fan is lucky to know it is a bass guitar let alone what brand & model is played. They'd be signing it to make the fans happy. I can guarantee not everyone who owns a signed instrument knows whether it is top draw or absolute crap. I can guarantee however they they know who it's signed by.

Secondly how much of a bastard would you be if a little kid came up to you with a cheap crappy bass when you played a (enter boutique bass here) and you told him to sod off because it wasn't good enough?

Also (in addition to the above response) who would actually want a bass they would want to play (i.e. a quality bass) signed. The only reason to have something signed is to display it.

I'd hate to have to hang my $4,000 Fodera (as if :)) on the wall because I was afraid of scuffing a signature when I could cough up $100 bucks for a crap bass, have it signed and never feel the urge to play it.

As far as donors coming up with good insturments...well they're cheap s.o.b.s.

This reply is for Amplexus and all like him, I have seen this bass and it is for real. I have seen the authentication papers from the Ohio State University charity auctiuon in 1994 and the COA for this, so laugh all you want this guy has what it takes. He is also not just a coin dealer but also and ebay drop off center which is where the bass came from for hi m to sell. Check out the bid, obviously someone out there knows more than you do.

It's hard to say for sure, but it seems like in one of the letters, Geddy (or whoever wrote it) was saying it was used while he was in a log cabin, working on Counterparts, but not necessarily recording it.

I'm wondering if any Columbus folks here know how to get a hold of Jeff Coyle, the original donator. Coyle music was THE place for many years before Sam Ash came to town.

Go away scammer. You joined today, have a username "authentic01", and have only one post. A post that says little more than "you don't know what you're talking about" without any facts to back it up. Go back to dealing coins.

As for checking the bid, there is such a thing as shill bidding.

OK, first off, just because it was sold at "auctiuon" as you put it, doesn't make it the real deal. COA's are easily and often faked and mean nothing without something else to back it up (i.e. a verifiable signature with notary). Second, my main problem with the listing is not with the sigs, you could do a little research and probably find out the truth (which, granted, most fans won't do), but with the claim that the bass in question was used in the recording sessions for Counterparts, a claim which is patently false. Whether or not this guy is an eBay drop-off place or not, it is still not all the listing claims it is.

Yeah, I beleive him yo! :p... this could not be the same guy selling this authentic bass ... no flippin way :D... he sold me a bridge to the Amazonian Jungles from France just last week ... this has GOT to be the real deal ... i mean, he has the paperwork to prove it :rollno:... Neal Pert and i went to hairdressing school together ... he developed a shampoo formula in his down time from playing drums ...
That being said, in all honesty, if this was truely signed by rush, um, WHY SELL IT?!?!?! because I just so happened to have gotten my hands on it, and I want to "share" it with the world?

Then you dont mind us all reporting this auction so ebay can look into it and make sure you're not a scammer? :)
