Hinton String Quintet

Discussion in 'Music [DB]' started by Alistair Hinton, Nov 9, 2005.

  1. Readers might like to know that the recording of Alistair Hinton's String Quintet will be broadcast complete in "Performance on 3" on BBC Radio 3, commencing at 6.55 p.m. GMT, on Tuesday 6 December 2005. Spread across 3 CDs, it occupies 2 hours 50 minutes + interval and is scored for string quartet and double bass with the addition of a soprano soloist in the finale. The double bass player on the recording is the extraordinary Italian Corrado Canonici. The finale includes a big aria (of more than 12 minutes' duration) for soprano and double bass only.

The performances of each participant are magnificent, Canonici meeting the challenges of its taxing double bass part splendidly.
