Does anyone specifically have some feed back regarding which hipshot to get? Aluminum or brass is the question I am facing.

hipshot bridge for rickenbacker

I would love to figure out how to rig one for my 8 string 4003s/8, which has that problem (so badly there's not enough down force on the bridge saddles to hold them), but I haven't yet figured out a way to get 8 string saddles in there (probably need to custom mill a compaitble shell to fit around an 8 string bridge or something)
If you're more worried about weight, aluminum; if tone, brass. Just my 2 cents. I have the brass / chrome one, haven't mounted it on anything yet though.
Yup, but if we opened a new one, somebody would surely have told us we should've done a search first!

Gat 1 hipshot Ric Bridge and 1 Schaller 8 string bridge and take them apart and use the parts to make one bridge that works for you.
Yeah, I have the pieces, but they don't quite like each other without work. But feasible, sure. That's why I was thinking of a custom milled shell in the shape of the hipshot with insides to fit the schaller, lots of work either way. What I'm going to do in the meantime is carve a piece of maple to fit in the gap under the bridge, drill holes, stain it black, and mount the string ends in that. Though that might cause the bridge to snap - who knows.
I have a brass one.
Works great, very user friendly and adjustable.
Care has to be taken to keep the saddles level to keep from wobbling side to side, but once you have that sorted, a little dab of blue Loctite seals the deal.
The brass unit weighs close to a full pound, the aluminum is supposed to be similar to the stock piece, though I'd think it adds a little weight (possibly not noticeable).
The extra weight of the brass one is very noticeable, so if weight is a big issue for you, keep this in mind.
