Hipshot Bridge

I have a Fender Standard P-Bass (MIM) that I would like to change the bridge on. Reason is because I want a bridge that has "top-loading" feature (strings). Which of the Hipshot Bridges would be the best for this bass? Anyone ever change theirs to a Hipshot?

My bad..... yes, they do load from the top of the bass. I don't want to have to thread them in from the back of the bridge.

The Hipshot Vintage have that common 5 screw pattern found on most Fenders. They do make a 3 screw version for string thru also.

I have that exact bridge in my J. It does the job perfectly fine and the "top-load" feature is great, just take the strings out of the tuners and off they go! Fast as lighting, no threading them out from the back of the bridge anymore!

You've basically got 3 options, A Style, B Style, or the Vintage.

If you want the bass to still look similar to how it does now go with the Vintage.

Cool man! Mine has the 5 screws. I like my P-bass, its just that I don't care much for the bridge on it. Thank you for sharing.

If you go to Hipshot and look under Retrofit parts, you'll find Hipshot bridges which will retrofit your Fender.

You can get specialized A and B type bridges that have screw holes that will fit the Fender layout.

And btw, the Hipshot bridges are top-notch stuff, I have them on all my Clement custom basses more or less, and a few others as well. I'm mainly using the A type bridge, but I have experience with the B type, too, and they are all excellent bass bridges.

Another favourite of mine is the Schaller Roller type bridges. It's not a direct replacement, though, so you will have to do some drilling there But they are very adjustable and prevent string breakage big time

I've got Hipshot A-style bridges on both my P-basses (both Squier bodies), and I'll never be going back to anything else.

My Spector is a quick load. It's great for when strings break (very very rarely), but it's a PITA to keep the string seated while winding. They like to pop out due to nothing hold them in.
