Hipshot BT8 Bass Extender Key install

I have the BT8 which I can install the bass plate but the lever doesn't do anything. All of the instruction videos are for the vintage style extenders. Any suggestions on how to install so it works? Tia

I’ve had it happen and it’s always been some little step I did wrong like forgetting a washer.

I've had it happen when the lever adjustment screw was too loose and not touching the lever. Tightened it and all was AOK.

It's difficult to know what's wrong from just reading your post. Pictures would help.
