Hipshot string retainer

This is the one and only "mod" I've done to my 55-02; having to go underneath the original bridge every time may not seem like a big deal to most, but it was annoying to me AND this retainer makes changing strings faster ... and I think it also looks cooler :woot: ; other than that, this Bass is Amazing! (Top pic is the original retainer)

I honestly don't like either string retainer. The first one bugs me because cheap 60's basses from Japan had that type of string retainer (bar with two screws). For the cost of Lakland basses, there should be a better string retainer, or a design that doesn't require one.
The second retainer (Hipshot) just doesn't fit this bass correctly. It's a much better design than the original, but obviously can't be placed correctly on this bass.

OP here, I've since sold that Lakland 5'er, now I have a 5 string Fender Modern Player with that bar retainer and I'm looking to replace that one as well; Anyone know of a good 5 string replacement retainer/tree for a 5 string Fender Jazz? Thanks in advance.
