Hipshot - Surprising Customer Service

i like hipshot b/c imho they make great products. its very reassuring to know that they really stand by their products and provide great customer support too!!!

i had a similar instance awhile ago w/ the Schaller tuning keys on a Fender Deluxe American bass. The D string tuner was missing a screw that holds the key to the gear. i just wanted info on the size of the screw so i could purchase a replacement. Fender told me that i'd need to take the entire bass to an authorized fender service center for warranty service, with the implication that the bass was probably going to be shipped back to fender for service (why, i dont know. seems like a lot of trouble for a little screw). I told them politely the bass was out of warranty to see if i could talk fender into sharing the screw size. no luck. they gave me the same thing about the authorized service center and offered to help me locate one. This frustrated me greatly.

I emailed Schaller about the problem and they emailed me back within a day. they even sent me 2 sets of screws and washers for the tuning key (from Germany, mind you). it took 2 weeks, but i was impressed.

but i read this thread yesterday and unbelievably, last night at our regular gig right before our first set, my d tuner on my stingray flew off too!!!!

unfreakinbelievable. i just screwed some parts back on (the lever and teh washers) but then it didnt lock. it wouldnt lock. i knew something else was missing. but i had to play already so i played without using the d tuner.

after the gig i found another washer on the floor. after putting it back on, it locked again.

so it's the washers that keep the lever locked in placed when it's on E?

how do i prevent this from happening again?
