Hiss Noise w/ Ray34ca

Hi Guys,

Just bought a sick mint green ray34ca. Amazing bass! But, having a slight issue w/ hiss. This happened at practice this past week, and again at my gig last night.

After doing some testing this morning, when plugged in to my amp, i noticed that if i touch any part of the scratch plate such as the volume, bass or treble knobs/pots with my finger or hand, the noise completely goes away. Same happens when I touch the instrument cable, or input jack with a finger.

The grounding button on my Markbass head made no difference either. So, I'm not sure how to fix this. Do i need to add some sort of shielding or do something else?

I am really pissed I couldn't play the bass last night, but I did use a jazz bass and there was no hiss or any type of noise.

Any suggestions?:help:

You have a hiss that goes away when you touch metal/strings/bridge, correct? That indicates a shielding issue, nothing else. Give the bass a proper shielding job and the hiss will go away. There are lots of threads on the subject. There is a thread about a humming Stingray that is pretty old now, I cured my hum and posted the steps in that thread. I am sorry I cannot remember the thread title.

The groundlift is definitely not going to affect this. Do not defeat the groundlift unless you are actually sure you need to.

EDIT: Found it for you. I chime in on the last page. There are several people with a similar issue in the thread. Hope that helps, I hate hum so I like to remove it from every bass I can. If you have any questions shoot me a PM.

Thanks! I actually found the thread as well, and saw your post. I'm going to grab some copper tape today. Any recommendations on products?
