Hiwatt Club Thread Vintage/Reissue

Did a search and couldn't find any 'official' Hiwatt Club Thread of the like....think I saw a Reeve's Club, but nothing Hiwatt specifically - SSooooo here's my attempt to start one

Got a Hiwatt Amp or Cab - vintage or reissue, please do post and fuel the GAS for our fellow TB readers.

I have a reisue Hiwatt DR201 that's been paired with a Bergantino NV412, but I just recently acquired a NV610 that i'll primarily pair that with

I was able to find a quad set of winged C KT88. Need to get me some preamp tubes to experiment with. Got JJ's 803 in there now.

Since this is a club, guess i'll take #1, but this thread can mainly be for discussion purpose too =)

I have 2-12" 100 watt combo. 1979 Hylight era with original Fanes. Not a bass amp per-se but I've played bass through it when I had it loaded with 2 EV 12's. I couldn't lift it but that didn't matter.... Louder than a full stack!

I built my own DR201 clone, don't know if it counts but it sure does sound like a Hiwatt..

thank you for starting this, ive been surprised there isnt one. heres my DR405, serial number 4574 putting it right in the middle of 1973.

@bb5000 Just to keep consistency with other club thread, cops and clones do not count for a club number. Your clone does look bada$$ though!!! what kind of transformers did you use? gut pictures would definitely be cool to see

@beebassdude Sweeett!!!! never really realized there was significant size difference between the 100 Watt and DR405 cool though!!!

Hiwatts sound and sounded the best 1968- but Marshalls 1968- smelled best.

I figured as much. My amp is in storage and I wont be able to get to it until Augest after I return from a tour to EU/UK I'm about to embark on. Pics to follow!

beebassdude- what cab is your head parked on? Acoustic 408 or 406? You have two cab there in the pic...whats the other one?

The transformers are from TubeampDoctor in Germany, DR201 replacement..not sure about the manufacturer though, some say that TAD transformers are Heyboer. They have the correct voltages and about the same size, so they were acceptable.

The preamp is basically the DR405 version, I changed a cap on the Brilliant Channel to make it less crispy. I can use either 6 x EL34 or 4x KT88, individual bias adjustment for each tube, DI output etc...

I do like Jim Reeve's amps. I've not owned or played one with a "HIWATT" badge, but my Reeves Custom 225 is probably the last amp I'll buy.

Theyre both 408s. I have 2 408s and 2 612 customs based on the old sunn 1200s. The dr405 runs a 408 and a 612, and an svt-vr runs the other set.

This was my first Hiwatt. It was a 1973 DR103. I got it in 2001 and sold it in 2010.

In 2011 i got a Brand new Hiwatt DR405 and custom built both 410 cabs.

I have a 1973 Custom 50 purchased from the original owner 15 years ago, a fantastic amp and plenty loud enough for most venues.

I have to say I would not want it to be any heavier though, no danger of it blowing away!
