I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but I thought I'd give my 2 cents worth...
You aren't going to find a better price for what you're looking for than Heyboer. And don't be discouraged with their low price; they offer top quality product. Merc Mag is just a rip-off company and they try to justify their overpriced transformers with words like "mojo" and "ultimate tone" and whatever other BS that their marketing department comes up with. Yes, I know that they are located in SoCal and they have to come up with astronomical rent money for being there but they can move up to Palmdale for a lot cheaper rent, if that's their reason for their outrageous prices! LOL! What Heyboer charges is what these transformers should be going for.
The Hammond 1650W will also work well in your application as the B+ voltages in a DR405 make it impossible for that amp to put out 400 watts. The DR405 will do 300 watts easily, but no way it will do 400 watts. It would need to have 8 KT88s at those voltages to do 400 watts. The Hammonds are VERY conservatively rated so can do 300 watts RMS easily at bass guitar frequencies. As a guitar amp output transformer, at guitar frequencies, it will push 500 watts output. Unfortunately, Hammonds have gone the way of Merc Mag transformers and the prices have shot through the roof for them. Don't those Canadians know that their dollar is below the US dollar now?!? LOL! Actually, Trump and his policies probably has more to do with the price increases than anything else... Oh well. The good news is that they can be had cheap used on Ebay when they come up for auction as they aren't popular "mojo" transformers at the moment. Hammond's are great quality though!
By the way, did you ever get around to building this amp? How's it coming along?
