This is NOT a 'what should i buy' thread but I'm curious to know;
I went to check out my local guitar store as i had not been there for a while. I found a Ibanez SR1200 and a Fender American Special Jazz both at $1360. I only had about ten minutes with each bass so i can't make an informed decision. In your opinion, which is the better bass?

Which ever one feels and sounds best to you. Go back and spend more time playing each bass. Try others as well and see what suits you best.

+1 Exactly. This is the best advice.

Those are very different basses - both nice, but go back, and try them longer than 10 minutes. One will speak to you - or maybe something else all together.
