Shooting. Just bought a 9mm handgun. Paid $615 plus FFL transfer fees. Paid over $200 for 450 rounds of ammo, then shot 200 of them in 2 hours at the range! Then there's the $700 Remington R700 which costs $1 a round. If I wanted to get into semi automatic rifles (which I do, for competition), a Soviet/Chinese surplus that's 70 years old and has seen war will run $500 plus 80 cents a round. They were less than $200 before the buying panic in December. AR 15's used to be as low as $600-$700, nowadays I don't see one for less than $900 or $1,000 and most decent ones run $1,400 and up, also almost a dollar a round. Keep in mind you can shoot a 30 round magazine in 10 seconds and that's $30 gone. Then there are accessories, magazines, etc.
We're going to start reloading our own ammo though. It will be an initial investment of a couple hundred but will save money in the long run.
