Hofner bass pickup mounting.

Oh dear, I took my Hofner out today and it seems some gremlins got inside the case when I put in there last time. The treble side of the bridge pickup is hanging down inside the body. I do know a lot about fixing things on basses after so many years of playing, but I must admit I have never really pondered the inside of my Hofner before. I have the screw and the spring is in the right spot, but how exactly do these pickups mount on a hollowbody bass? I bet one of you knows how to fix this.

It should mount like this.

If the screw and spring are still in the tab on the bottom of the pickup but down inside the body I’d guess that the screw head fell or pushed through the hole in the mounting ring. You can either get a new mounting ring or you might be able to go to the hardware store, take the screw with you, and find a washer that will work.

Thanks. I have the screw, so it seems like just a matter of lining that up with the mounting ring beneath the spring. Assuming that the mounting ring hasn’t broken off somehow.

If there’s enough wire it’s usually easier to remove the pickup ring and line it all up outside of the body then remount everything and reset the pickup height. Still kind of a 12 fingered operation but easier at least.
