So how is the build going .... ? I would like to know how what pickups are using to replace the Chinese pickups. what did you do to get the new ones to fit ?

Thanks for checking in. As indicated in the previous remarks, this project slowed down - stopped, really - because my wife and I separated. Other things in my life are tumultuous too, so the bass project has been put away for now. Once I get through this next year things may change.
As a brief update, I was able to check the height of the pickups compared to the space between the strings and the body. Given the space between the body and the strings on the Ignition I will have to use pickups and that can be lowered into the body cavity a bit. So I won't be able to use a lot of the pickups made by Hofner. I can use the ones I have or possibly their blade pickups. I will likely just go with the ones I have, but also cut a new hole in the body so that pickups are like the Cavern spacing.

Finally an update. I've stripped the bass down to the basics before I build it back up. I have also order some parts to upgrade it. I will post the new parts soon. Here are some pics of the bass torn down before I build it back up. I sanded all the finish off the top so that it is natural. I also pulled all the frets. Currently I'm thinking of leaving the top as it and then just adding the lacquer on top. I also plan to fill in the frets and and color it black.
I have gotten back onto this project. I now have all the parts, and will post pics of those soon. I have also started the process of applying the new poly finish. Here are some pics.
I have added many layers of polyurethane finish. I think it is very close to the color I want now. So next is likely some sanding and then a few more layers. I don't know! This is all new. I will have to look it up.
That's what I'm thinking too. I just have to figure out what to do next. I know there is sanding of some form, but I haven't been able to look into it yet.
Can't wait to see the finished bass... I like not seeing a dark sunburst edge ....

First coat of wood filler and the neck got some much needed attention. I still have to figure out what to do with the neck. I pull the frets, but the laminate I bought from Stewmac do
n't fit into the slots. I have some epoxy that I hope will do the trick. I asked a local luhtier how much it would cost to put frets back in and it was the same as a new bass. Derp.
Too thick. The frets have been pulled for awhile, so I wonder if that has contributed to the situation.
How wide are the slots? Do you have feeler gauges to check with? Any hobby shop or RC car place should have 0.020” styrene in several colors. Veneer that should be about 0.020” is available also.
Double check the size of the slots but I’d expect about 0.022”, .55-.56mm. The too thick material can obviously be sanded or scraped down also if you don’t want to buy more. I made something like this out of an old spoke shave iron. If the scraper is sharp it doesn’t take that long.
I ordered some .020" sheets. How type of adhesive should I use? I have some wood glue, but I suspect it won't work with the styrene.
I’ve used “regular” CA glue. I think it would be medium in Starbond. Somewhere between water thin and gel.
The styrene was delivered and I cut them to length yesterday and glued them in today. I am letting them set for 24 hours and will likely take off the tape tomorrow. I will have to level off the styrene pieces. Any advice on how to do this?
