Hofner custom build

I use a chisel to get the styrene close to the board then level like you would any fretless. Get the neck as straight as possible and use a long, flat beam with sandpaper sanding along the string paths then blend the areas between the string paths with the beam.

Looking like a pretty cool project. I’m interested to see how you route for the middle pickup on the arched body.

It is a hollow body, so I am planning to use a jig saw to cut the new whole.

Did some more work on the Hofner. I removed the tape and sanded down the neck. Using a chisel on the neck didn't work for me. I put a gouge in the neck. The sanding made it better. I oiled the neck after the sanding was done.

Progress is slow. I had to clear up some bills and wait for some parts. I also have to wait for the weather to get nicer to start the painting process.

Nonetheless, I got some parts and made some progress. Next step is to paint and them polish before assembly.

Lots of updates, since the project is done!

First pics from the painting saga!

I was attempting a Fender 3 colour burst, but that didn't work. Then I was going to do dark brown, but I didn't like the end product. So I went with a redish hue.

Can I get some details on the pickup mounting? Did you modify a staple pickup ring to fit the German pickup? How are you adjusting height? There are a million posts shooting down putting a German pickup into an ignition/icon, but if it's just a matter of filing some plastic.....
