Hofner Ignition Review

Love my Ed Sullivan Show edition...

One month after that post I suffered a thankfully minor stroke the impaired my right side a bit and I found that, while I could still play, I had to simplify parts and essentially teach my right hand to coordinate with my left but I was lucky and able to gig two days after I left the hospital and I haven't missed any, much to the surprise of my neurologist whose jaw actually dropped when I told him.

I also found right away and to my dismay that my right hand could no longer navigate the narrow string spacing on my Hofner so I had to set them aside. It was only recently after a year and a half that I was able to start using the Hofner again and I hope to be able to play it out again soon. Keep on keeping on.

Just saw this.

Thank you. The pandemic cancelled all our shows so I've had time to recover more of my ability to play my Hofner. General recovery is taking more time but I'll keep pluggin'.

It took a while but I've managed to cobble together a lightweight solid body using the neck from a damaged Hofner Icon 500/1, a lightweight Bronco body, a Wilkinson 3D bridge and a no name Strat dual rail humbucking pickup. Basically just parts I had laying around. It's not the best looking thing but it works well.

Just the other day I was trying to figure out how to use my long neglected Ignition 500/1 while seated since I can't yet play for very long while standing. The 500/1 body waist causes considerable pain in my leg and arm while playing seated. The simple solution turned out to be...that's right...duct tape. I stacked several layers of tape to bridge the waist such that it's less painful on my leg and arm...It might be true that duct tape really can fix everything. :thumbsup::)

I hope the duo can resume shows during the Summer but we plan to start "entertaining the neighbors" with rehearsals as soon as it's warm enough to start playing on my porch.

I have both the Ed Sullivan Ignition and HCT basses and they are both very nice basses. Very comfortable and easy to play and sing with.
