Hofner violin basses electronics

Hello,
I want to buy a new bass guitar and I thought the Hofner violin basses looked nice and, from the several websites, are good. But in some sites like this people said that the electronics are bad. Do you think this true?

Thank you,

As Gorn said; they're just... unusual. Although; if you realize that, 1) like on a Rickenbacker, "Bass" means Neck pickup, and "Treble" means Bridge pickup; and 2) Hofner just took the controls on their electric guitar, and put them on the bass, too? Then they actually do make sense... Or, you can do what I do, and just think of them as Hofner's revenge for losing WWII...

Not bad at all. Quality-wise, on a par with anything out there.
