Hofner Violin

Don't have a Hofner but I have a really nice vintage Radio Shack violin bass, and anything with lots of tubes in it will rock your world using a violin bass. It will sound great with any amp but tubes especially make hollowbodies rock well. Well, anything GOOD with tubes...might be one or two crap tube amps for bass out there. I'm partial to SVT's and 810's myself.

I am getting an Ashdown Little Bastard, and then will get either the VS-112 or VS-115 cab, this will be my first all tube rig to play my Hofner basses through.

Ampeg B100R or B50R are great for Hofner basses with flats, as is the Fender Bassman TV Ten amp.

Oh no Paul....you have to use ALL TOOB :rollno: :D
Not just tube...tube and transformers! It's not all in the tubes...got to have both.

:D

Man, I spent a lot of quality time recording different basses this past week with my new-to-me REDDI tube DI, my B-15 with a speaker DI, my VT Deluxe, and my Countryman Type 85. The B-15 and REDDI just kicked all kinds of ass over the VTD and Countryman. Was not even close. It's totally because of the tube(s) and transformers. Clips are posted in the REDDI Mega Thread on pg 19 (I think) if anyone wants a listen, but I defy anyone to tell me they couldn't tell the difference between a simulation and the real thing in those clips.

So now I'm back to being an all out tube snob ;) Always was, really. Solid state is doing things I never thought possible these days, but it still isn't the real thing. Love the easy schleps with micros and I still get a very good sound and the same crowd reaction, but I've got this desire now to only play through what I consider the best stuff made. Fortunately, I can do my gigs on a B-15 so I'm golden between it and the REDDI and don't have to do the 250 lb schlep to get it on.

Awesome Jimmy. :D

But I will also add that you can make ANY gear sound great if you play well and know what you're doing. I just choose to hear myself in grand style these days. That doesn't make me a bad person, does it?

Yes it does. A VERY bad person. And I like it!
