Greetings! My name is Gabriel, 40 year old bass rookie. Bought my first bass in June 2023, a beautiful Cort Action PJ with an Orange Crush Bass 25 combo amp. Due to work, house building and other stuff, it had little use until about 8 months ago, where I could pick it back up again and started taking lessons at a municipal art school near home.
Things were going smoothly and at leisure pace, until two things happened at the same time: I sent my bass to a luthier for setup, maintenance and new strings, and my teacher said: "in 2 months there is our art expo, care to play with us on stage?"
That flicked a switch on my brain and rearranged priorities on my brain, other hobbies included. Something I did not count on happening at my age! As the tech was taking too damn long, I went nuts and bought a second bass, a nice but weird in its own way Epiphone Les Paul Special, and just a couple months later I sold my amp for a bit bigger but much better suited Fender Rumble 40 that I got on a great deal. In the middle, I got also a M-Vave Blackbox, plus on another great deal Santa sent me a Sub n Up Mini Octaver, so I have a great deal of stuff to play and fool around for different sounds when I'm not just drilling practice, trying to get my awkward and dumb fingers to execute what my mind is telling them!
GAS is a thing unfortunately, and I want for it to stop there and concentrate on playing...after I check on an used amd very nice and very cheap black cherry MB5 lol. I like metal and low range, really want to have the low B for some chunky Down songs hahaha.
Multiple searches lead me to threads here where I got very valuable advice, so I may just join and try to participate and mainly learn a lot. I'm an absolute n00b, a nerd, a bit of a tech (started to work on my own basses whenever a specific tool and skill is not needed), and while all gear talk is great, I know where I need to spend the most time is on learning about playing music and its inner workings. And practice, lots of it
