Hold your bass pretty low?

That's OK, Jimmy, it's all right to not care what other bassists do. You do what works for you. mowburger does what's best for him, although I think his bass is not in a ridiculously low position.

Reminds me of those import tuner cars that make you cringe whenever they approach a speed bump.

I can usually tell how good someone is by where there bass is when they put it on..
The higher the Bass the better the bassplayer...
They're are of course exceptions, but I find this to hold fairly true...

I would think playing your bass that high would be uncomfortable because I'm a pretty big person but i think it all depends on how you feel the music. It reminds of how a baseball players swings or how a quarterback throws the football, whatever gets the points on the scoreboard is appropriate. Technique has it limits

I presume you really enjoy this sort of noise, but I (and every none-bassist ever) would be bored of this stuff in no time.

Down low, but not super low. In the sweet spot where I can still use my left hand effectivly but get the most out of my down picking.

Yes it is a simple matter of ergonomics.

Agree that this position is ergonomically good - but I also find that the body of the bass resonates through me when I have it sitting against my (ever expanding) belly. You start feeling like the bass is a part of you when playing in this position for a while.

I keep it as low as my strap will let me, but i'm taller than most so it sits just below my waist. Keeps my right arm/hand relaxed, but makes it a little bit more difficult playing above the 14th fret.

Like a few other people have said, I tend to wear mine so it's in a similar position when I'm standing and sitting

resurection cause i just stumbbled upon this. Depends on the bass im playing. My thunderbird is helf pretty low to counter the neck dive (i have strap locks plus a homemade belt strap on it (real leather belts) so it doesnt slide downwards. My pbass, pretty much like deedee ramone or paul simonon. In the future, ill be building two "inspired by" gibson ripper basses and i've seen people with them, and they just look awkward when held high. Except for some reason gene simmons is the only one who can look totally badass with a grabber held that high. But its probs due to it being such a big round body that it looks better held low.

Alternately i've had problems finding straps that let me hang my bass as low as i'm used to. For years i tied a bit of rope to my strap....

I'd like to wear mine like a neck tie, but feel like a dork, so I go sitting height. Can't play any lower as my shoulder and neck hate me already for years of welding.
