HOLLOWBODY BASS SELECTION: Which would you choose?

You didn't ask, and I'm not your dad, but I'd hesitate to finance a bass for an indie/originals outfit (unless you have a contract). I've done it: the band lasted two years, and left me with an expensive instrument that I never found another "right" application for. I was lucky to sell it for half what I paid. Don't even want to think about what the fees cost me. YMMV, of course, and my attitudes are informed by my experiences.

Hofner Verythin: Love the sound clips. This thing sounds great but very few music stores carry it and Ill have to finance the bass through the store. Video clip online of a guy demoing this is the best video Ive seen of someone who understands hollowbody, shortscale basses. Played to perfection and very informative.

Financing through the store costs you in so many ways, but that's one right there--you are limited to what they have available. Further, you can't take advantage of good prices on quality used instruments found elsewhere, which would make your investment go further. Any way you can hold out until you can snap up a great deal when it appears?
