Hollowbody Options

I've been looking for awhile at hollow body basses and frankly don't know much about them. I don't see them come up very often in the classified and besides the picture galley thread here there's not a lot of info. Hello Music has a Aria Tab 66 they're selling for 52% off which looks to be a good deal. However I know nothing about this model I was about ready to pull the pug on a Epi Cassidy model until this posted. Can any compare and contrast the difference or positives and negative for these two hollowbodies? Are they decent? I've heard that both are hard to keep tuned and need a lot of setup care. Thanks

tab 66 and tab 60 have good reputations from what i've read, there will be a lot more info on the cassidy for you to peruse, because it's an epi

Not sure if there's just a lack of knowledge when it comes to Arias or what. Anyway, when I found this video it confirms that the tone is close to what I'd be looking for in a hollow body so I'll probably save me a few bucks and go with the used on I've been tracking. For 299 doesn't seem like you can go wrong since they're new at 759.

However, even on the Aria site you can't discern between the Tab-66 and the Tab-66 Reissue. Does any one know if these are the same just called differently by different folks or are they two distinct variations? Even Aria doesn't say it clearly.

I have played and owned many different semi hollows and hollow bodies. I currently have a vintage Fender Coronado and a vintage Hagstrom Concord in sunburst.

The Classic IV is a very well-made affordable semi-hollow. I like it so much, I somehow ended up with three of them. Someone please buy one from me?

the aria & the epi jc are both well made instruments. I recently sold a jc bass because the full scale on the hollow body made for a lot of neck dive. Loved the tone of it though. The aria as i recall is short scale and will likely have a more controlled balance,

Your Eastman looks cool although white aint my color. Pulled the plug on the Aria Tab-66 all black for 299. Couldnt pass it since it is pratically new.

I pulled the plug on the Black Aria Tab 66 reissue that was listed in GCs used section. Big risk as it's coming from Kentucky. But we'll see when it arrives. At least it can be returned. Stay tuned.

The ones with floating bridges are more fiddly to setup & intonate, but once it's set, as long as you don't change string gauge /type, or take alll the strings off at once, it should stay put.

Doesn't look like it'll be much of an issue on the Aria with the tune-o-matic style bridge.

+1 for the Lakland Hollowbody. The sonic blue one that used to belong to Darrel Jones (in the classifieds) would be smokin'. Of course, a used Skyline would be more affordable...

Hi, my regular "weapon of choice" has been a Gibson SG bass. I say "has been" because I have just invested in a Ibanez AFB 200 (hollowbody) and all I can say is Sooooooperb!!
Finish is excellent, it's lightweight and with a huge range of sounds from punchy to almost an upright soundalike; it's loud enough to practise & noodle around on acoustically too.
I've only gigged it three or four times but it's now my instrument of choice.............thoroughly recommended!!
