Double Bass Hollywood Bowl legends

I was at the Hollywood Bowl concert that Herbie Hancock organized for the late Wayne Shorter. There were guest appearances by Joni Mitchell and Carlos Santana, but the highlights for me were appearances by esperanza spalding, Marcus Miller, John Pattitucci and Ron Carter (seriously).

Geez-louise!

I bet that was amazing in person!

I, too, was at the Hollywood Bowl tribute last nite and it re-confirmed for me the difficulties (and disappointments) of amplifying a double bass in such a large outdoor venue.
But, I was glad I got to see (and hear?) some legends. (I was about a 1/4 mile from the stage!)
Note: I am a card-carrying member of the Glass Half-Empty club.
IMFO, of course, as always.

Yes...He was there and might have earned the MVP trophy for his efforts that evening.

He gave a solo performance one year at the Aebersold camp. He draw us in, held us mezmorized, and wowed us for more than 10 minutes. Absolutely brilliant!

I'm just a visiting orchestra guy (and yes the sound at the Bowl is very problematic), so I was just "jazzed" (pun intended) to see those players.

Sounds like a wonderful tribute, I had the privilege of seeing Weather Report in three different incarnations each was a standout performance. Once with Miroslav, once with Alphonso Johnson, and once with Jaco. Wayne was always the consummate soloist while Joe was the wizard of color and composition. When the power to the stage went out at the concert venue in Cincinnati Joe and Wayne played the same music acoustically until it was fixed. Now that was something to witness.
