I love Gibsons, but for $15k, I would lean towards an extremely clean late 50's P or early '60's J. Or 4 NYC Sadowskys.

Thats what I was thinking. I mean a 64 P in the same condition probably by less than 15K me thinks.

Exactly. Unless you get into really early 50's P's or stacked knob (or custom coloured) Jazz basses, I think it would be hard to spend $15k on a Fender unless it is a serious closet classic.

Warpdrive is an incredible store and the owner Joe is a great guy, I have had the privledge of dealing with them a couple of times and have been nothing but pleased everytime...granted there ebay prices may be a bit overpriced but at the store they seriously hook you up...great vintage instruments, and incredible gretch selection if thats your thing...

I've never bought anything from them online but have good luck with them in person. Picked up a used G&L F-100 from them for like $250 a couple of years ago (yes, yes it's a guitar not a bass, but still).

I bought a new Eden WTX-260 from Warpdrive (via eBay) a while back for $500. I ended up selling it for more than that. They're nice people.

1k car, 6 or 7 grand in engine/drivetrain/suspension/chassis modification's , the rest would be tires and event fee's. BRILLIANT!

I'm pretty sure that there were only about 500 of these basses made between 1963 and 1966 compaired to 1000's of P-basses. This one is a II (one pickup model) which I beilve to be less popular than the IV (two pickup model). The headstock doesn't appear to be broken (happened to most of them it seems like) and the bass as a whole is in pretty decent shape. I bet if you find a custom color 64 P in that nice of shape it'll be listed close to the 15k mark too, especially if its from a dealer like this bass. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not an expert on vintage gear/prices, but this price doesn't seem too "out of nowhere" to me, IMO of course. Thanks for listening, and have a great day!

Ahh, good old Warpdrive.....and my original hometown too!

They do have some of the most awesome vintage stuff there. When I get back down to Milwaukee next month I'm gonna go in there and drool a bit......

As to the Gibby price.....I don't see how this bass could be compared to a Fender anything. There were a lot more of the Fenders made. The Condition of that T Bird is one of the basses that goes through Warpdrive that I'd call unbelievable condition! So, to a collector etc, the price is the price I guess.

If you want a 1500 dollar T bird, buy a new one. Good luck finding a single pickup model though....in any condition.

True that I wouldn't be buying it either, I probably wouldn't buy any bass I would be afraid to play....this Gibson is one of those.....

I swear they have a time machine or something.......
