Homemade cabs?

The band I play in has a ridiculous sound system, and we get hired to do multi-band outdoor things because of it. I'm expected to share my rig, and I like making stuff, so I've made a few cabs for that use. They sound fine to me, but I doubt the audience hears anything other than the pa. That is more than offest by the perverse pleasure I get from watching other bass players look at my rig, trying to figure out why they've never heard of 'Impala' bass cabs before.....

Another +1 for "home-grown" cabs.

I have a 1x15" cab that acts as a sub for my rig. It was built by someone who has made a business out of his home-grown cabs, but since the business is still him in his garage it's home-grown.

Wouldn't trade that cab for anything. Pair it with my Avatar 212 and the low end is gut-moving.

About 15 years ago I built a pair of matching 1x15 cabs to replace an over-abused Hartke 4x10 that was on its way out, and the heavy metal cover band I was in kicked me out because it didn't fit "the image".

They said they weren't about to have a bass player in their band using cheesy, homemade speaker cabinets.

What a bunch of posers.

hidden behind the grillcloth is a dual 30 band EQ and a wireless and it still only weighs 15 pounds.

the box is made of 3/8 plywood, w/ just the front part doubled up to look like it's made of 3/4 wood.
