How about a Jazz bass w/ P width neck?

P basses have been made for a long time with optional A-width (Jazz neck) spacing at the nut. Even the new Custom Shop Postmodern P's have a jazz neck.
I really dig the necks on a P bass, with the wider spacing. Is there no demand for a Jazz with a 1.75" nut? I know I could replace the neck on a Jazz if I wanted, but was just curious. One of the big reasons I play a P bass mostly is because of the feel of the neck.

Nope. Not enough for Fender to make one anyway. I like precision necks on jazz bodies too but the demand compared to the opposite is practically non existent.

i think a lot of players configure their own, but i don't think it's such an 'odd duck'. seems like i've read plenty of posts by members who prefer/play that combination. i assume they've just swapped out necks. mighty mite has good (excellent?) P necks (fretted and fretless) for the fender bodies/pockets.

but i leave it to Gorn and others who know the fender 'thing' much better than myself.

That’s probably going to be what i end up doing if my Jazz bass doesn’t sell.
I really like the J bass sound,but not that skinny nut/neck.

I might be wrong, but don't Aerodyne Jazzes have P style necks?

*I might be thinking of the old Frank Bello signature Jazz. I spent a lot of time back when I was in school gawking over both of them so they've fused together in my mind.

I had my custom bass built with this concept. The Jazz sound is "my" sound, but I always thought the necks felt like pencils. 35" scale, 22 fret, five string with Precision dimensions. Not for everyone but great for me and very unique!

I watched 1x...that was enough for me.

Back in the day, I recall a couple of guys putting a Fretless P-bass Neck onto their Jazz Bass.
Ralphe Armstrong (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jean Luc-Ponty) was one of those guys.

I actually had a bass assembled last year with a Fender jazz body and a USACG precision-width neck, but it's got their tele-ish headstock! I maxed the neck out in every dimension so it would be as fat as possible!
I like it. I like it alot!

Just snag up a four bolt P and a J (no tele-basses allowed) and swap necks, then part out the unused pieces parts.
