How can i find preamp which match with wood?

Hi Jonathan, are you asking how to match preamps with wood types? In my experiences, it all comes down to personal preference. There are a lot of different types of preamps and a lot of different types of wood that basses are constructed with. The best thing to do is to try out as many different combinations as possible so you can learn what you like. Preamps and woods have a significant influence on your tone.

you might be better asking what kind of wood and preamp to best get _______ tone you are looking for.

for instance: I like a bright tone with a lot of clarity but low end punch and the ability to produce mids if needed, I favor maple necks and lighter bodied woods and I favor more modern or hifi sounding preamps like Trace Elliot or GK.

If thats the case, I have the stock tonepump jr in my spector, quilted maple top, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. on that. I dont know whats in my 72 fender jazz, some ass-hat decided to put actives in it. Will be putting it back to stock soon.
