How can I get more power from my Ashdown mag 250 combo?

Hi guys, Got a big problem here .:hmm: I'm finding my Ashdown mag 250 combo has problems getting over the drummer and the two guitarists. If I use the balanced DI output and go direct into the powered mixer, do I need the pad switch in firstly? Sorry about that bit but i'm a bit confused with db balanced and un-balanced, I think the little ashdown has a balanced d.i output. I'm trying to spread the sound using the p.a, as my one 15" speaker is only being used at half power. I don't want to spend out on an extension cab if the amp is still not gonna do the job so I'm thinking of a way I can up the power without spending good money after bad. Any suggestions please?:)

Putting in an extension cab will draw more power out of the amp. Assuming the Mag combos work like my Electric Blue combo, you're currently driving an 8 ohm speaker, and the amp will put out max power into a 4 ohm load. So, assuming you've got a jack for an extension speaker, plug it into an 8 ohm cabinet and you'll definitely get more power.

By the way, I use my Electric Blue (180 watts) with a cabinet and it holds its own with the drummer, 2 guitars, and keyboards.

I added a BFM Omni 10.5 to mine and it really took it up a notch. If I recall it cost me less than $150 to build.

Other than adding a cab or using your PA instead, theres no way to get any more out of it.

Misty, do you not know any other bass players? If you do, ask one of them if they have a separate speaker cabinet that you could try with your combo. Watch the impedance limits of your combo so you don't cause damage. If the additional cabinet solves your problem then you can buy one. If not, you need a new more capable amp.
