I just changed the strings on my fender p bass from the stock strings to a pair of hybrid slinkies (same gauge) and the strings got a lot looser especialy the E string. its really hard to play because i play with a pick so i strum hard and the strings rattle and bend every were when i finger a note. so how do i make the string tension higher? oh and btw the neck seems pretty straight to me. the strings are all up to tune btw.

Exactly. Otherwise if you polish them with toothpaste before you play can increase the tension too. Finally your last options is to buy new higher tension strings.
Well, taking for granted that every bass is different, you'll find tension varies among strings. Construction has a huge deal to do with it, and say, Slinkies, are usually a bit slinkier than other brands, even within the same guage.
Heavier guages of the same model of string have more tension. Flatwounds are generally stiffer than rounds, but that varies by brand too.
Or you might just need a setup, and have your action raised a bit. Consult your friendly neighborhood tech.

Slinkys are prob lighter tension then previous strings. If you cant get on with them feel wise then try the next higher gauge. Never had a problem with them when I used with pick playing and low action. But you may be used to heavier play to compensate for the previous strings higher tension.

Not really. They're only higher in tension compared to DR's round core strings. In the grand scheme, they are really no higher tension than any other normal hex core string...actually they are fairly low tension in comparison to most.
