How cold should you let your gear get?

I leave my cab outside in the trailor often when on tour. Basses and amps always go in the hotel room with me.
That said, I've seen many friends letting their guitars or amps in freezing cold temperature and nothing happened but personnally I think my gear deserves better than that!
