I try everything I can, even no name cabs.
Actually my 4x10 someone made on their own, then
sold it to music go round. However, no one would touch it,
since it wasn't name brand. I bought it for $150.
It sounded better than the brand name 4x10's they
had their. I havn't found a 4x10 that sounds as good.
Your right, people usually don't buy amps for being
"flat." I know I didn't with my solid-state ampeg.
If I wanted flat I would of gone with gallien-kruegar.
Right now I'm lookin for a 15 to put under my 10's.
I'm trying everything I can get my hands on.
Even a Mesa Boogie 18, the boogie is the way an
18 should be. It sounded to agresive for my style, an
awsome cab nontheless. No flab, just solid low end.
It's taking me awhile to find a sound I like. I like
marshall 15's. I've played two marshall bass cabs
they have almost Identical tone which is a good thing.
The search continues... I'll find it.
I was talking to some one at chucks levins.
He said that most 4x10's can now go pretty deep,
almost as much as a 15. Even though they can go down
that low, with ports an all, their's just no denying the differences between the 2 speakers. A 15 just has that
thump that a 10 just can't give you. So the search continues, but I'm gonna find it.
Interesting thing about my 4x10. I was describing the speakers ohmage,
and the cab construction to a saleperson at atomic music,
and he told me something interesting. The speakers were probally from a 70's or 80's ampeg 8x10. Some one just
made a 4x10 to make it more portable. Well that explains
why I havn't found a 4x10 that sounds as good.
Thanks for everyone's replies.
Bruce, I apologize I overreacted. Thank you all for
posting.
Sincerely,
Greg
P.S. I'd like to hear your story's about speaker search
and finding your sound. Peace Out.
