How do i connect xlr direct out to sound card

alright, i have a gallien-krueger BP250 bass head with an XLR direct out output on the head, so ive got the xlr cable plugged in with a 1/4" jack on the input end and a 1/8" mic adapter on that so as to plug right into my sound cards line-in or mic port, but it just isnt working at all. im not picking up any sound.

Mind you i am a noob with the whole amp-to-computer business so if anyone has some insight or a how-to guide it would be much appreciated if you could post that for me and run me through it,

That will get you where you need to be. Works the other way around too. AKA DJ time.

If running XLR out to sound card plug in to mic in. If running sound out go in to an "active" in if you have one.

yeah, ive got all the hardware set up correctly and its plugged into my mic in, im just not picking anything up on the computer, probably due to my noobishness and the fact that i may have a picky bass head who knows.

no im not making them, but ive just got it working after screwing with everything a bit, ive got it going crystal clear
