I really want my bass to sound like it's coated in bacon grease, like Les Claypool's. I play alot of Rush as well, and I really love that bright grinding sound. Anyone have any ideas?

Les Claypool? Turn the bridge pickup all the way up, turn up the highs and down the lows. Flail your wrist like a fool and strike the strings with your fingernails as percussively as possible. Also, the key to getting that "Claypool" sound is to play as unmusical as possible.

I take it you're jealous?
If you play closer to the neck and use the bridge pickup you can get pretty close
It's kind of like picking the best bass for metal
EMG 35dc + light or med light gauge strings + decent preamp (ADA MB-1, SVP Pro,...)
