How do I get the Mark Hoppus sound?

First of all, your rig would sound more suited for Blink than an SVT would, and second of all, Mark Hoppus is pretty good. He doesn't just play root notes, people need to do some homework.

Just boost your high mids, play with a pick towards the bridge and have fun. It's not that hard to get a clanky punk tone.
man overboard and carousel. that's about it. and the bridge from the verse to chorus un anthem part II.

no disrespect meant to him or any blink fans (i am one myself).. but the vast majority of his stuff is root notes, and yes, very easy.

Heh blink songs were the first things I've learnt when I started to play bass. Carousel took me about 5 minutes. Don't get how he gets all the fame, he is very simplistic even by punk rock standards. Yep, turning the 'suck' knob to 9 is a pretty good explanation of his style! :D (You have my cheers, Bob)

get the exact same bass, strings, pick, cable, pedals, amp, cab as him.
then play exactly like he does...(technique, intensity, body positioning, etc.)
heck you might as well wear the same clothes he wears and do your hair like his...
keep practicing all of the above, and soon you will be him.
