How do I get the Mark Hoppus sound?

First of all, your rig would sound more suited for Blink than an SVT would, and second of all, Mark Hoppus is pretty good. He doesn't just play root notes, people need to do some homework.

Just boost your high mids, play with a pick towards the bridge and have fun. It's not that hard to get a clanky punk tone.

I'd say stop playing for 5 years straight, then record with a pick the first thing you have in mind after those 5 years, and you got a very nice mark hoppus tone

Heh blink songs were the first things I've learnt when I started to play bass. Carousel took me about 5 minutes. Don't get how he gets all the fame, he is very simplistic even by punk rock standards. same here.

"what's my age again", took all of about 30 seconds to learn.

get the exact same bass, strings, pick, cable, pedals, amp, cab as him.
then play exactly like he does...(technique, intensity, body positioning, etc.)
heck you might as well wear the same clothes he wears and do your hair like his...
keep practicing all of the above, and soon you will be him.

also, i think "technique" has alot to do with "tone"...

the reason why some people buy all the same gear as their favorite player and can't sound like them, is the technique used...

Todd: I thought Mark Hoppus played through Ampeg SVT+810? You for sure don't need the SVT setup though, just use a punchy cabinet, boost the mids, hard pick attack with a p-bass you should have it right there.

Unfortunately, he might be the next Hoppus, as he told me that he's getting a lot of money soon, and will be shelling out for an 8x10 setup and the Hoppus Signature.
