If your drummer is starting tunes too fast (as opposed to starting okay then speeding up), maybe someone else could count it out?

How do I make my drummer slow down!?

I'd find that pretty frustrating indeed! -especially if you wrote the tune!
I suppose you don't want to come off as 'sensitive, excentric artist' or whatever, but I'd also be a little insulted if the guy can't respect that you imagined, conceved and WROTE the song to sound like such and such a tempo! Can't you tell him "Dude: I wrote the song, and I wrote it to be THIS speed. It's not the song that I wrote at THAT speed."?

Haha, I actually am not in that band anymore. Although fast drumming was probably the last reason for that. If anyone cares, I just went on some frustrated rant about it in the "annoying band members" thread. Thanks for all the advice, everyone!

He would say "it sounds better faster" and I would stare blankly and try to think of ways to kill him with my bass.

Somebody tried to copycat DB Cooper's plane hijacking and was demanding like $20 million and a escape helicopter or some wacky thing. After they Valiumed his coffee they got him down to three cheeseburgers and a getaway car. Busted.

haha, i was approached to join a kitchencore band. He explained it as music mixed with a love of cooking and food, possibly even on stage. I laughed. They guy didn't. He was serious. He's brought it up multiple times. Kitchencore. I mean... just... why?

That most always works. Try it. If it doesn't bust out the metronome. Let him/her know how many beats per minute the song is supposed to be played in and set it. Everybody hate hearing / watching that thing but it works.
You're in as much control of the tempo as the drummer. If he speeds up don't speed up with him. Tell the other band members to follow you and see what happens. The drummer may finish the song a few minutes before the rest of the band but he will get the message.
