How do you install a 3 string retainer?

#2 pencil with a sharp point or a mechanical pencil with reasonably soft lead.

edit: a liquid ink can soak into the topnut and not show file marks well.

Well I installed the string retainer exactly like the pic in my OP. it took me longer to get the drill and screwdriver, than it did for the actual job. As far as I can see, the nut will not need filing.
