I solve the issue by being the only guy in the band who seems to ever have any equipment at all besides his own instrument. So this way I know ALL the speaker, XLR, patch, etc cables are mine!

I use blue nail polish to paint my initials on the ends.
Heat shrink, well you have to take the ends off to get it on there then solder them back together, very time-consuming.
Put a coloured zip tie around the cable, close to the plug (and tight, so it stays there), then snip off the excess.

Haha, I've been sitting in bed all day with a chest infection, I've got nothing but time...
Pilgrim said:I use colored electrician's tape - one wind of red at the end of the cable. On AC cords, the red goes at the plug end.
If it comes off, it's easy to replace.
Another option - buy colored velcro cable wraps for all cables. I use them on all cables anyway, and you can get any color you want. They never melt, shrink or fall of if properly installed. Buy in bulk for better prices.

Oh yeah. Mine is tan/white tweed.I used to play with an obnoxious gold tweed cord. Everybody knew it was mine until it crapped out.
