How do you play like Larry Klein, any references to techniques, etc would help

Hey, I'm just curious, a seasoned bass player, and I've always been a fan of Larry Klein's technique, but have never been able to emulate it. Particularly, my first example is his featuring in a Joni Mitchell track named "You Dream Flat Tires". (Album, "Wild Things Run Fast") Is there any advice on how to get that fast plucking, and if you know how he does that?

I don't know, but it was great to see him on the Wild Things Run Fast tour. Although not quite as amazing as the Shadows & Light Tour.

There is a video of the WTRF band playing through a bunch of songs out there, so maybe you could glean something from that.

Thanks, I honestly wasn't expecting a reply, but it means a lot. Especially because this band is one of my biggest influences.

@kbasskrk Longtime LK fan here. Have found his musicality to be exceptional, and am happy that it was often demonstrated or expressed through bass.

@hdfixer Great link. Thanks for sharing!

He was Joni's musical director and life partner. I had a friend back in the day who was Joni's personal chef and assistant at the time when she and Larry were an item. She said it was a very interesting household but didn't give me many details, except that Joni smoked like crazy and did not cook.

I love his bass part on that tune!

Larry Klein played fretless bass with David Pritchard in the early eighties.
City Dreams.
